About Sarah

Sarah’s been everywhere and done everything (well maybe not everywhere and maybe not everything) but her relatively short adult life has been a quite a journey. She lived in the UK, working in the media industry and various other entrepreneurial endeavours for close to a decade, married, divorced, travelled, jumped ship to a tropical island in the Pacific and then another in Indonesia only to return to her home country of Australia 15 years later to be diagnosed with cancer. That was almost four years ago now. Finally, she decided it was time to pursue her own dreams and passions. Sarah has always loved working with her hands and has created various arts and crafts most of her life, even dabbling in sculpture during her treatment period. Following her completion of a diploma in Furniture Design and Technology at Tafe in 2016 she says “the course truly opened my eyes and my mind to the infinite possibilities in the world of design and construction (not only furniture) and challenged me to widen my skills set to create unique, beautifully finished pieces with fun, quirky elements”. Sarah relishes the entire design process from the initial idea stage to drawing and conceptualising through to quality construction techniques, and prides herself on finishing each and every one of her products to a high standard. She has commissioned a number of pieces to very happy customers this year and looks forward to meeting new clients – and their expectations – as well as making a name for herself in the industry both locally and further afield. As well as starting her own business, Andersen Design, her next big project involves working with two other well-known designer/makers in a workshop with its own in-house gallery space and is excited at the prospect of manufacturing her own pieces for display and sale. She is also driven by an ambition to teach others how to find joy and satisfaction in the art of creating beautiful, functional items which will last for generations. “For me…” she says, “…it’s just sooo much better than sitting in front of a computer all day!”

Andersen Design’s clients are happy customers – here is some of their feedback on recent projects.

“We needed a privacy screen for our verandah and the more commercially available options just didn’t suit. Sarah is the consummate professional. She listened to our concerns regarding the right fit for our home and gave us advice, possible options and constant feedback during the process of design, construction and installation. We are extremely happy with the quality and aesthetic of the finished product.”
